Why A Skip Is Great For Clearing Your House Of Rubbish
Do you feel crushed by the amount of waste building up in your household? I glanced around my house and realised that I had piles of junk. However I tend to do something about it. Over countless years, I have collected old furniture, books that are no longer readable, and shattered household items. They are in the attic and every room of the house. Most of it should have been thrown years ago as it can’t be used or repaired or passed on. Splintered cupboards, smashed picture hangers, bits of mantelpieces, carpet, old brick and light fixtures all reside somewhere in my abode.
Even an automated being would tremble at the sight of the sheer ‘stuff’ to be cleared. Building waste is a label that barely covers it. It is 20 years of my life but scrap that I do not want or need. Enough is enough. I need to do something about it. The thought of hiring a skip and putting it in front of the household is appealing. The organization will just place the skip where I commonly park my car. I then fill it up with what ever I want. There were some other options available nonetheless they seemed involved.
Help from the local council is problematical in that they collect only a certain amount at a time, and want advance booking and will charge for every collection but the first. This is pricey and frustration, as it involves too many rules and regulations. Read the rest of this entry »
Retirement – What Could You Do During the Day When You No Longer Go to Work?
For some people the thought of retirement fills them with dread, especially if they have got into a habit of not going out much except for going to work and perhaps going to church or other religious places of worship. They become very worried about how to fill their days once retired and even if they have plenty to do perhaps in relation to caring for their grandchildren there are a lot of hours when they are at school or in bed and the days seem to stretch out filled with emptiness.
Of course how you decide to fill your retirement time is to some extent up to you but initially you may need to make a shift in your mindset about what you could have the opportunity to do now that you no longer fill your day with working.
If you are someone who has spent most of your life doing things for others then deciding what you would really like for yourself might be a challenge for you. However if you love caring for others but your day seems empty without work then you could consider contacting some volunteer agencies, or look in your local paper for indications of volunteers needed in your area. There are usually opportunities for volunteers who want to care for others less able than themselves. These people might be disabled or recovering from an illness and need someone to do some odd jobs for them or just call in for a chat on a regular basis. Read the rest of this entry »
Boston Beer Co Becomes a Lender?
Boston Beer Co. is well known for their line of great beers and their heavy influence on the microbrewery and craft brewing scenes. However, Jim Koch, founder of Boston Beer Co., is branching out a bit. He’s getting involved in the lending industry. Now, lending and brewing seem like two practices that probably shouldn’t go hand in hand. The image of lenders plying applicants with beer until they sign on the dotted line isn’t that pretty. However, Koch has something else in mind it seems.
Like Koch’s original beer enterprise, the lending he’s involved with is “micro-lending”. It involves the giving of very small loans ($500 to $25,000) for small businesses. However, those businesses are only in a very certain niche – the hospitality, beverage and food industries. Therefore, restaurants, breweries, taverns and the like can benefit from this lending program.
The name of the program is “Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream”. Thus far, the program has been very successful. It has made more than 55 loans. However, the real mark of success is that the program has helped to create more than 500 new jobs in the local area. To achieve results like this in the midst of a recession proves just how beneficial Koch’s new program really is. Read the rest of this entry »
